Thinking and Drinking at the 2014 Melbourne Writers Festival

20 July 2014 | by Andrea Frost

I am both excited and delighted to be part of this year’s Melbourne Writers Festival.

The line up includes literary luminaries as Sir Salman Rushdie, Dave Eggers, Ruth Reichl, Emily Nussbaum and Helen Garner. The program offers sessions on politics, media, world literature, music and performance.

I will be involved in two events from the extensive food, wine and travel program. The first, the Grampians Winter Wine Weekend, is described as an ‘exclusive literary weekend getaway with a focus on gorgeous gardens, good food, great wine and thought-provoking conversations’. The weekend offers two events, the Royal Mail Hotel Wine Dinner and Flavours of Mount Langi Ghiran. Speakers include Professor Allen Grieco, Mount Langi’s viticulturalist Damien Sheehan, Professor Snow Barlow and myself. It will be a wonderful weekend full of talking, tasting, drinking and thinking, to speak nothing of the wines from Lethbridge, Byrne and of course, Mount Langi.

Back in Melbourne, Australian Fine Dining is part of the Thinking and Drinking program. Literary scout Estelle Tang will chair a panel with writers Cindy Hauser, Ronnie Scott and myself, where we’ll discuss the evolution of Australia’s dining culture.
